Guangrao to host 17th Sun Tzu Cultural Tourism Festival

Guangrao county in Dongying, East China's Shandong province, the birthplace of ancient military strategist Sun Tzu, will host the 17th Sun Tzu Cultural Tourism Festival from Sept 10 to mid-October, which is designed to highlight the cultural significance of Sun Tzu while boosting tourism in the region.

According to organizers, the program will feature 13 major events, including an opening ceremony, cultural forums, traditional opera performances, a half marathon, calligraphy exhibitions, and student study tours. Visitors will also be able to take part in interactive activities such as archery, armor-making workshops, and strategy-themed games.

The Sun Tzu Cultural Park in Dongying features a sculpture honoring the ancient military strategist.

The opening ceremony at Sun Tzu Cultural Park will present large-scale stage performances alongside music and dance shows. In addition, the 2025 Yellow River Delta Sun Tzu Innovation Forum will bring together scholars from leading institutions to explore Sun Tzu's relevance in the modern era.

A lakeside food and camping festival will offer regional cuisine, outdoor recreation, and family activities, while four themed travel routes will link local cultural landmarks with scenic destinations.

Officials estimate the festival will attract more than 500,000 visitors and generate about 80 million yuan ($11.22 million) in tourism revenue. They say the event reflects Guangrao's efforts to combine cultural heritage with modern tourism to drive local development.
